Preparation for Prototype, Design Documents & Concept Art


Hello there all, we just wanted to update you on our progress

We are currently in a preparation phase for our prototype - we hope to have a playable prototype demonstrating important elements of our game early next week. We hope to have the Hub Area and a Exploration Area white-boxed out in Unity and have the combat and dialogue systems working. Here's a little gif of our movement working with a dash!


However, over the past week we have focused on our Game Design Document (GDD), Narrative Document and our Project Plan Document:

  • Our Design Lead has outlined the GDD and filled in some important sections - over the next week they will edit the document in alignment with the Narrative Document progress and the other team members will contribute to the document. 
  • The Narrative Document has been structured well and we have decided on our main challenge, plot of our game and monster races - other narrative elements such as characters, detail of enemies etc. are currently being drafted. 

  • In relation to the Project Plan Document, which I am in charge of, I have outlined the document and completed the first section. The sections for the entire document include:
    1. Project Resources (Team Roles & Responsibilities)
    2. Project Objectives & Milestones (Pre-Production (design stuff, prototype), Production (vertical slice, alpha, beta, gold/release))
    3. Product Backlog & Project Plan
    4. Project Risks & Target Market Research

You might be eager to see more concept art - so here you go! Michael did some more cool artwork in relation to the player character (different angles and different styles slightly) and an rat enemy example:



Over the next week we will be continuing to work on all I discussed above! Snippets of our prototype and feedback will make an appearance here soon!
