Vertical Slice Feedback & Moving Towards Alpha Phase

We are back from our break! We want to update you on the feedback we received from our Vertical Slice playtests and give you an idea of what we will be working towards over the next two weeks (Alpha!).


For the positives, many playtesters enjoyed the aesthetics of our game and found the characters charming. The movement felt great for some and playtesters were curious to explore more of this underground monster society with the leading character Kat. The dialogue and the character talking sounds were too much to absorb for the majority and the combat variables and feel needs adjustment. There was a major bug relating to the dash ability mechanic - people got caught mid-air and in walls while using it, etc. Moreover, some would like more UI to world art/theme correlation and more background on who the character is


Taking this advice on board, we hope to tweak the game build we have now. We aim to tidy up the art style and alter the UI artwork, to polish the combat system and make necessary changes and also cut down on the dialogue and voice sound effects. Any bugs that arose will be sorted out too.


Additionally, in order to have our Alpha build completed in two weeks, we will also add our pause menu and include a level map. The current game build polishing and bug fixing alongside the additional elements to add will be spread out over these two weeks. This week, we took it easy after our break, and we did some clarification concept-board work - new UI, level design, reformed combat system and art style. This has readjusted our focus and drive to work hard for the next two weeks.
