Finalizing Game Design & Project Plan Documents
Hey there all! We wanted to give you a quick update on our progress...
In regards to the previous playtest mentioned in the last blog post, we have been taking on the helpful feedback and have successfully converted the Unity project from 3D to 2D!
Our programming people have been working on the shop in the hub area, inventory systems and polishing up the AI.
Otherwise, our mainly focus over this week has been our GDD (Game Design Document) and our Project Plan Document. These are both due for college by the end of this week and are essential for communicating the design and features of our game and how to effectively execute the creation of this game.
GDD:
- This document includes our game overview, design, narrative, tech, audio and art aspects of it
- The overview discusses our game inspirations, high concept and unique selling points
- The design section covers gameplay overview with flow charting, features and design pillars
- The narrative and art part entails the plot, game world and characters description/background while the art outlines the aesthetics
- The tech section discusses the game systems and the programming style and GitHub etiquette
- Finally, the audio section goes into the sound effects, music and software needed
Project Plan Document:
- This document includes our project resources, team plan, product backlog, schedule, and project risks
- The project resources section covers our team roles, responsibilities and our project management and development
- The team plan discusses the milestones of the pre-production and production phases of our project
- There is a product backlog that includes all the game features we ideally want in the game till date (it can change over time) while the schedule is a Gantt chart that ties the tasks to be done in the product backlog with the milestone timeframes to provide a structured plan for going forward
- Project risks highlights the negative affects of COVID-19 on the project team in terms of working from home mainly and possible communication difficulties and it also discusses how our project scope/game world is quite big, but, how we will potentially reach our goals despite all these setbacks/risks.
Gosh, I would say you need a break after reading that!
Here is an updated concept artwork of our main protagonist/player-character, Kat! (yes, she's a girl now we have decided!)
Stay tuned for updates next week, we hope to have more concept art and in-Unity programming bits to show!
