The Prototype & Playtest Experience

Hello all! We just wanted to share with you how our Prototype got along, as well as the playtest for it!

Check out the Prototype video here:

Lets talk about the Feedback we received:

  • Everyone had a very positive response to our placeholder art for the characters, while some liked the level design and the dialogue system. One even expressed they would like to see the werewolf character Fynn to do something funny at a particular moment - showing they are somewhat invested in the character!
  • Testers suggested improving the feel of the moment, combat, collisions and clarify visually that the 'breakable' wall looked 'breakable'. Some suggested a lack of clarity of where to go in the level, however, in the future there will be a map in the game as a common trait of metroidvanias.

What's next?

Upon internal and external testing (feedback from the Playtest), we feel that a fully 2D game would be more appropriate for the mechanics we wish to feature. Initially, we had planned to have 2D art assets in a 3D unity scene and physics, however, we are now in the process of altering everything to 2D. Over the next week, we will be polishing and submitting our Game Design and Project Plan Documents, then we will continue to work on our game - gently moving towards our Vertical Slice Milestone at the end of December 2020.

In case you're interested... here's the artwork included in the prototype!

See you next Friday! Check out our previous blog post if you wish: Upcoming Prototype
